Temple Rodeph Torah offers two variations for the Rosh Hashanah morning service., followed by a common service to include Torah and Haftarah readings and the Rabbi’s sermon.
The earlier service relies on well-known melodies and a “traditional” order of service. The Rock Hashanah services mixes a variety of traditional and more modern songs, often including melodies we haven’t heard before. The Rock Hashanah service uses a band, so even the traditional high holiday tunes will have a different feel when accompanied by drums and a guitar. Rock Hashanah has more music, and therefore there is less time for readings (and some traditional readings will be accompanied with music).
