8th-9th grade classes meet Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Electives:
The 8th and 9th grade program is structured around Themes, which change with each of the four semesters. Students select their own course from an array of electives, most of which relate to the semester’s Theme and some of which are General. Each student is required to successfully complete eight courses over two years, including at least one Theme course per semester.
Special Programs:
Students also participate in special programs with guest speakers, presenters, or instructors, which will take place during school hours. Parents are generally invited to join the teenagers for one of these programs. A weekend retreat is scheduled to heighten the Jewish experience in an informal setting, and all TRT students are required to attend in either their 8th or 9th grade year (or both).
Challenge Courses:
Each semester we will offer a “CHALLENGE COURSE” for highly motivated students. These courses, modeled after high school honors courses, will vary from semester to semester, as will their requirements. In order to maintain a higher level of academics, students enrolled in challenge courses may be asked to do outside preparation. Challenge Courses are open to ALL students who have open minds and who are willing to rise to the challenge. In addition, students completing two Challenge Courses during the two years will be Confirmed with Honors at the end of 10th grade.
